After the week we’ve just had here in Tennessee, with wind chills below zero several days in a row, it’s hard to believe that, on December 30, I’m writing this blog post out on my deck in 60-degree weather.
As the clock ticks toward the end of 2022, I want to briefly pause my ongoing series on Faith over Fear to note the passing of a year and the beginning of another.
Never in my life have I been more excited for the arrival of a new year. For me, 2022 was a good year. When I look back over the last twelve months, I’m filled with gratitude. I expect that you could say much the same. I’m not in a hurry to see 2022 end. But I’m very excited about all the potential that 2023 holds.
This morning, I finished writing my second book, which I plan to self-publish early in 2023. This book is especially written for Christians who have loved ones that are questioning, challenging, or otherwise deconstructing their faith. It can be a challenge to know how best to relate to a loved one whose spiritual journey seems to be taking them in a very different direction.
Too often, well-meaning Christians engage with their loved ones in a way that causes pain, separation, and ultimately, a damaged relationship. My book is intended to be a compassionate guide for Christians to maintain a positive, meaningful, loving relationship with their loved one, while remaining true to God and their Christian faith.
Once the book is released, I will be speaking about it at churches and other venues around the United States. If you are interested in scheduling me to speak to your group on this topic, I encourage you to contact me right away about putting a date on the calendar. You can reach me at admin@kevinrscott.com.

In the car earlier today, I was listening to the song, “Seasons of Love,” from the musical Rent. You may be familiar with the lyrics:
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure,
Measure a year?
As the song goes on, the lyricist suggests the best way to measure a year is by how much love is given and received.
As we enter 2023, I encourage you to think of the many opportunities you will have to create, share, and spread love throughout the upcoming year. There may be no better way to measure the success of a year than the amount of love we have shared.
